Christine Meuris & Kristina Nobleman: IN SYMMETRY

September 9th, 2022– October 15th, 2022

Artists Christine Meuris and Kristina Nobleman are In Symmetry. With the concepts of wholeness and balance in mind, they have created work in their related yet unique visual languages.

Both artists are inspired by the basic grid pattern of plain weave textiles and the effect that simple methods like folding, cutting, or removing threads can achieve in creating harmonious imagery that aspires to convey more than the sum of its parts. Using a restrained palette and limited materials, such as paper, ink, fabric, and thread, they collaborated to create a conversation about the holistic nature of perception and the sensory delight of symmetry.

Christine Meuris is an artist living and working in Berkeley. She has shown her work in solo and group shows locally, notably at the Berkeley Art Center and Mercury 20 Gallery, and in group shows around the U.S. She was the inaugural Digital Artist in Residence at the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles (SJMQT). She has work in the collections of the City of Berkeley, SJMQT, Kaiser Permanente, and the Four Seasons Residences, as well as in several private collections.
