Sept. 8 – Oct. 14, 2023

Surprise, Surprise: Motha#@?%$!, is an exhibition by Raymond L. Haywood, working in the realms of Abstract Expressionism fused with Afro-Futurism. His work explores African American and American modes of expression in painting, sculpture, and installation, challenging the conventional white cube gallery aesthetic. Through profound narratives and socio-political relevance, his art captivates and engages. Embracing Afrofuturism, Haywood redefines artistic expression and breaks free from inherently cultural supremacist constraints and traditional definitions. His art transcends mere brushstrokes and pigments, delving into the heart of human experiences. His diverse body of work showcases a profound exploration of identity, culture, and history, weaving a tapestry that reflects the struggles and triumphs of the African-American community.
