JAYNE BIEHN: FOUND

June 16th – July 22nd, 2023

FOUND is a contemporary, mixed-media exhibit by artist Jayne Biehn, a recent addition to the East Bay art scene. Her oversized works pay homage to original, vintage photography and juxtaposes them with modern typography, graphics, and bold color treatments. The large-scale pieces are adhered to wood and integrate printed paper, acrylic, oil stick, thread, and graphite.

Jayne is inspired by discovered original photography and scours vintage stores, estate sales, and eBay for unique photos that speak to her. Once the image is enlarged, she adds freehand marks, machine sewing, and color. The photos anchor her work, but she experiments and takes risks throughout her process, making the narrative open, accessible, and interpretive.
