Judi Miller: New Works

April 2007

New Works by Judi Miller

April 6 – 28, 2007

Mercury 20 Gallery is proud to announce the two-person exhibition of Judith Hoersting and Judi Miller.

Judith Hoersting will present "Views of Lake Merritt", a series of paintings inspired by the elements local to Lake Merritt. Both the color palette and subject matter of these abstract compositions have been influenced by the proximity of water and abundance of trees and flowers. Each painting is created with multiple layers of oil and cold wax applied with a palette knife. Hoersting’s website www.judithhoersting.com has more information about her work.

Judi Miller’s paintings are the results of a daily practice in the studio that is focused on achieving harmony and are an exploration of the higher chakras. For Miller, harmony is a sense of natural order and heartfelt spirit-inspired goodness. Her paintings are an acceptance of all mark making that appears on her canvas – conscious, unconscious, conceptual, emotional, and meditative – coupled with her desire to work towards an unifying sense of completion. Often times, this process takes months waiting for the thinking heart and mindful eye to make the unifying marks. Judi Miller, an Alaskan transplant to the East Bay, has been an art teacher for the OUSD for the past eight years. Every spring, Miller participates in the ProArts Open Studios from her Berkeley studio. Additional information about her can be found by visiting her website at www.judimiller.net.

There is also an ongoing group exhibition in the back gallery consisting of work from Mercury 20 artists. The artwork changes monthly and features new work from the gallery artists. Mercury 20 Gallery is an artist run gallery in the heart of downtown Oakland and part of the emerging arts district in the Broadway/Telegraph corridor.

There will be an opening reception on April 6 from 6:00 – 9:00 pm in conjunction with the Oakland Art Murmur. In addition, there will be closing reception on April 28 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. Gallery hours are Thursday, 5:00 – 7:00 pm, and Friday and Saturday, 11:00 am – 3:00 pm, or by appointment. For additional information, please contact
