The Surface of Things

January, 2017

Honig Wingspan
"Wingspan" (2017)

In The Surface of Things, Peter Honig presents new photographic work that holds a dark mirror up to the viewer’s psyche. Order emerges against all odds from the accumulated detritus of Honig’s studio, in the form of large tableaux that touch upon themes of love, loss, and the passage of time. At once visceral and ethereal, the artist’s compositions lurk in the psychological twilight space between light and darkness, the shadowy gray border zone of interpersonal communication.

Peter Honig is a graduate of Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts. After many years living in Berkeley, he has recently been sighted near Santa Barbara in the foothills of the Los Padres National Forest.
