Little Boy #22
part of the series: Soft Bombs: Little Boy & Fat Man, (2017)
fabric, wood, stuffing
6 x 6 inches
Only two nuclear bombs have ever been used. On August 6th, 1945, “Little Boy” was dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. On August 9th, 1945 “Fat Man” was dropped on the Japanese city of Nagasaki. When I was 18 years old, I spent a summer in Japan as a foreign exchange student. When I was 27, I went back to see my Japanese family, and to visit other parts of Japan, including Nagasaki. While in Nagasaki I went to the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum and Peace Park; and I wandered Hypocenter Park, ground zero where Fat Man detonated.
Using Japanese fabric, I created soft sculpture reproductions of “Little Boy” and “Fat Man.”
$250 each or $475 for a pair. Can mix and match.
