Leah Korican’s installation is part of her ongoing DOILoveYou series and is a variation on a piece created for the Nashville International Airport, which was installed 2020-2022. It celebrates anonymous women, crocheting and creating, making doilies and antimacassars, and the meditative aspects of their repetitive gestures. This work says let’s not merely make decor — let’s take up space. The cut paper drapes across the ceiling and plays with light and shadow, and brings the viewer into a place of both reverie and exhilaration.
Leah Korican
Leah Korican is a visual artist and writer based in Oakland, CA. She has a BA from UC Berkeley and an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. Her work has been exhibited nationally, including at the Richmond Art Center, Bedford Gallery, and Triton Museum, among others. Her public art commissions include a large-scale, site-specific cutout at the Nashville International Airport and permanent artworks for Kehilla Community Synagogue in Piedmont, California and Rumsey Engineers in Oakland. She is an award winner in the 2026 Guild of American Paper Cutters exhibition “Cutting East to West” at the Heritage Asian Art Museum in Chicago, Illinois. This is her third solo exhibition at Mercury 20 Gallery.
