Mercury 20 Gallery invites artists to submit works for our second annual juried exhibition, ‘Beyond Boundaries.’

“Thinking takes place through artistic activity in the form of paths that go in different directions. They crisscross, alternate, and occasionally form a meeting point for an insight, a point from which a thought breaks out into something new.” (Erkkilä-Hill, J. (2024). Mercury 20 Gallery is seeking art that interprets the theme: Beyond Boundaries. Boundaries are constructs that address geographical, sociological, material, and disciplinary crossovers. We encourage submissions that engage with, transgress, and reinterpret these boundaries. Artists are encouraged to interpret this theme broadly and in their own distinctive ways, using a variety of artistic mediums including but not limited to painting, sculpture, collage, photography, and mixed media.

About the Juror:
Demetri Broxton is a mixed media artist of Louisiana Creole and Filipino heritage who was born and raised in Oakland, CA. He is the executive director of Root Division, a visual arts nonprofit in San Francisco. His textile sculptures reflect his connection to the sacred art of the Yoruba people of Nigeria, the beading traditions of the New Orleans Mardi Gras Indians, and his love of hip hop and graffiti. Broxton holds a BFA with an emphasis in oil painting from UC Berkeley (2002) and an MA in Museum Studies from San Francisco State University (2010). His work has been exhibited internationally and most recently at SFMOMA Artists Gallery (2019), UNTITLED Art Fair (2020 & 2021), and Kala Art Institute (2021). His work is held in several private collections and the permanent collection of the Monterey Art Museum, de Young Museum, and Crocker Art Museum. He is represented by Patricia Sweetow Gallery in Los Angeles, CA. DEMETRI BROXTON

• Exhibition Dates: February 7, 2025 – March 8, 2025 (Gallery Hours are Fridays, Saturdays and by appointment)
• Opening Reception: February 8, 2025, 3-5pm
• Pick up Date: Sunday, March 9, 2025, 9am-12pm

Please note that selected artists will be responsible for hand delivering and picking up their artwork. No artwork can be shipped or stored. Artists must ensure that their artwork is prepared for display.
