Laura Malone was invited to participate in the first San Francisco “The Salon.” The Salon is a private art society—mostly, but not exclusively women—based in Paris, New York, the Hamptons, and London, and brings artists, collectors, and cultural patrons together in the setting of private women’s homes. This periodic event is a nod to the intimate gatherings of early modern France—where art wasn’t just displayed, but celebrated, debated, and supported by friends in a private home. The invitation only event included people—mostly women—who care about genuine conversation, living with art, and a true passion for beauty. The structure of the event is unique: the artist remains anonymous until after the work is discussed in depth by the patrons, giving the artist the unique opportunity to hear how viewers genuinely respond to and understand the work. People can follow the project on Instagram at @itsthesalon. If interested in participating in these events, they may request an invitation through The Salon website.
